Positive states are pleasant and can be used to promote desirable behaviors, change and enhanced well-being. The practice of growing positive emotional states can enhance our relationship with ourself and others.
I use what I’ve found to be a natural and smart fusion of high-level coaching techniques that incorporate the latest findings of neuroscience and positive psychology to help clients move desirable “states” to more enduring “traits.” States, whether negative or positive, are temporary and can be used to promote desired results. Just as chronic stress and worry further entrench what we don’t want, positive neuroplasticity training, developed by author and psychologist Rick Hanson, can give us more of what we do want in our lives. Practices such as mindfulness, gratitude, and meditation, as examples, lead to actual brain changes thanks to the wonder of neuroplasticity. Working with a professional to guide you through the process can help you turn new resources and positive habits into enduring changes. Trained in methods that encourage changes in the brain, I help clients find desirable new resources and teach them how to turn these positive states into lasting traits in the service of real change and goal attainment.

While it’s important to allow for the exploration of emotional distress and suffering (that is after all why you decided to seek therapy in the first place), I do believe it’s of equal value to pay close attention to the parts of your life that are stable and good. You can actively grow these parts and keep them strong. It’s a practice. Positive Psychology and Neuroplasticity Training allows us to do just that!

Positive Psychology can help you develop the resilience to recover from misery and adversity, returning you to vitality, hope and purpose
Positive psychology practices increase resilience because you focus on building your relationships (keeping them strong and healthy), building personal strengths (paying attention to real accomplishments, skills, and strengths), increasing positive emotions (do more things that bring pleasure and joy) and create meaning (add sources of fulfillment to your life). Positive psychology practices emphasize the concept of flourishing and thriving as a way to increase life satisfaction. We are closer to flourishing when we focus on the cultivation of talents and skills, pleasure and enjoyment, meaningful relationships, and meaningful contributions to others and the world. When applied more broadly, positive psychology practices can be extended to relationships, teams, groups, organizations, and communities.
