Whether you're a high-functioning professional navigating burnout, a woman facing hormonal shifts, or someone yearning to reconnect with your true self, this is a space where mind and body are honored equally. —there are so many therapists in NY State and NYC, how do i find the right psychotherapist for me?

With more than 50,000 licensed therapists across New York State—and thousands concentrated right here in New York City—the sheer number of options can feel overwhelming for anyone beginning the search for a therapist. A city as dynamic and complex as NYC offers nearly every therapeutic approach imaginable, from traditional psychodynamic therapy to cutting-edge modalities like EMDR and somatic experiencing. Yet, with so many clinicians available, the real challenge becomes this: how do you find the right one for you? At Holistic Therapy, EMDR & Wellness New York, I encourage prospective clients to look beyond basic credentials and instead focus on the deeper qualities that matter most in therapy: clinical skill, specialized training, emotional attunement, and the ability to create a safe, trusting relationship. Therapy is more than a service—it’s a relationship. And the quality of that relationship is one of the most powerful factors in whether therapy leads to lasting transformation. A strong therapeutic fit means feeling emotionally supported, unconditionally accepted, and safe enough to explore even the most painful or vulnerable parts of yourself. It means trusting that your therapist not only understands your symptoms but has the experience and tools to help you work through them—skillfully, collaboratively, and at your pace. When searching for a therapist in NYC, it’s important to consider whether the clinician has advanced training in the specific areas you want to address—be it trauma, anxiety, depression, relational issues, burnout, or hormonal transitions such as perimenopause or postpartum changes. Ask about their therapeutic orientation, how they approach healing, and whether their philosophy resonates with your values.

In my boutique NYC practice, I specialize in working with high-functioning professionals, creatives, couples, and women navigating major life transitions. I draw from a deeply integrative framework that includes EMDR therapy, somatic psychotherapy, Internal Family Systems (IFS), and mind-body approaches to address not just symptoms, but the underlying emotional and physiological roots of distress. This means our work might include nervous system regulation, attachment repair, or working with exiled parts of the self that continue to influence behavior in unconscious ways. Equally important is the therapist’s interpersonal presence: they should offer both clinical insight and genuine empathy—someone who listens deeply, challenges thoughtfully, and customizes their methods to align with your nervous system, life history, and therapeutic goals. Therapy asks a lot of you: time, emotional vulnerability, and the willingness to look inward. You deserve a therapist who is equally invested, grounded, and capable. In some situations, such as when medication is needed or when symptoms significantly disrupt your functioning, your therapist should also be willing to collaborate with a psychiatrist, primary care doctor, or integrative medicine provider to ensure your care is truly comprehensive. If you’re still unsure where to begin, Psychology Today can be a helpful directory to search by specialty, location, and insurance preferences—but always trust your gut, and give yourself permission to take your time choosing. You're not looking for just any therapist—you’re seeking the right therapeutic relationship to support your growth, clarity, and emotional well-being.

—Psychotherapists, psychologists, counselors, psychiatrists—what’s the difference?

As a licensed psychotherapist based in New York City, one of the most common questions I’m asked is about my training and qualifications. I earned my Master’s degree in Clinical Social Work with high honors from New York University, which provided the foundation for my licensure as an LCSW and my ability to practice psychotherapy. However, my commitment to offering the highest level of care extends far beyond graduate school. Over the past decade, I have pursued extensive post-graduate training in a wide range of therapeutic approaches to better support the diverse and complex needs of my clients. My areas of advanced training include psychoanalytic psychotherapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), EMDR, Positive Psychology, Focusing, Couples Therapy, Hypnotherapy, Sex Therapy, Trauma-Focused Therapy, and Life Coaching. I’m passionate about ongoing learning and remain dedicated to deepening my skills so I can continue to offer innovative, effective, and personalized care to the individuals and couples I work with.

  • A psychotherapist is a licensed mental health professional who may hold an MD, Master’s, or Doctoral degree and uses both talk therapy and somatic-based approaches to help individuals understand and process their emotional lives. Psychotherapists can include psychiatrists, psychologists, licensed clinical social workers, counselors, and marriage and family therapists. These professionals undergo varying levels of foundational training, and some—though not all—pursue advanced, post-graduate specialization in specific therapeutic modalities.

  • Psychiatrists are medical doctors (MDs) who can prescribe medication; some also provide psychotherapy, though this is less common. Psychologists typically hold a doctoral degree (PhD or PsyD) in psychology and may focus on therapy, research, or psychological testing. Whether or not they have additional training beyond graduate school varies. Some psychologists work exclusively in research, while others maintain a clinical practice.

  • Psychoanalysts complete extensive post-graduate training, which includes undergoing their own psychoanalysis or deep psychological exploration. Their work focuses on helping individuals gain insight into unconscious processes and patterns. Some psychoanalytic institutes now admit individuals with graduate degrees in other fields (such as law or history), allowing them to train and become certified psychoanalysts capable of providing mental health care.

It’s worth noting that not all therapists have undergone in-depth personal therapy themselves, though in my professional opinion, the most effective psychotherapists are those who have. It’s a valid and important question to ask when choosing a therapist.

—Should I see a psychotherapist or psychiatrist?

Deciding whether to see a therapist or a psychiatrist depends on your unique needs, goals, and the nature of the challenges you’re facing. At Holistic Therapy, EMDR & Wellness New York, I often help clients clarify this distinction. A therapist—such as a licensed clinical social worker (LCSW) like myself—offers talk therapy and integrative, somatic-based approaches to help you explore emotional patterns, process trauma, regulate your nervous system, and improve your relationships and overall mental wellness. Therapy is ideal for those navigating anxiety, depression, life transitions, relational difficulties, burnout, or unresolved emotional wounds. A psychiatrist, on the other hand, is a medical doctor (MD) who specializes in diagnosing mental health conditions and prescribing medications when needed. Many clients benefit from a collaborative approach, where they work with a therapist for in-depth emotional healing while consulting a psychiatrist for medication support, if appropriate. In my boutique New York City practice, I take a holistic, root-cause approach that often reduces or complements the need for medication through trauma-informed psychotherapy, EMDR, and lifestyle interventions. However, when medication is necessary or beneficial, I collaborate closely with psychiatrists and integrative physicians to ensure my clients receive well-rounded, compassionate care.

—If CBT is considered the gold standard in NYC therapy practices, why do you use somatic psychotherapy?

While Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is often considered the gold standard for mental health treatment, especially for conditions like anxiety and depression, it may not be the most effective approach for everyone—particularly those navigating complex trauma, chronic stress, or nervous system dysregulation. At Holistic Therapy, EMDR & Wellness New York, I offer a deeply integrative and somatic approach that goes beyond surface-level symptom management to reach the root of psychological distress.

While Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is widely recognized for helping individuals challenge distorted thoughts and shift maladaptive behaviors, it often overlooks a crucial dimension of healing: the body. CBT operates primarily from a “top-down” framework—working through the mind to influence change—but many psychological struggles, especially those rooted in trauma, stress, or chronic dysregulation, are not just cognitive in nature. They live in the nervous system, in the subtle cues of muscle tension, shallow breathing, racing heartbeats, and a persistent sense of unease that cannot always be explained by thought alone.

By focusing primarily on cognition and behavior, CBT may fall short in helping clients access and process the felt experience of distress—what the body is holding when language falls short. At Holistic Therapy, EMDR & Wellness New York, I integrate somatic therapies that attend to these embodied aspects of suffering, working “bottom-up” to restore regulation, build safety, and support lasting change. This approach complements cognitive strategies by reconnecting clients with the wisdom of their bodies—because true healing requires both insight and integration.

—Do you treat public figures, high-profile individuals, or high-level professionals in your New York practice?

Yes. I work with public figures, high-profile individuals, and high-level professionals who are navigating the unique psychological and emotional demands that often accompany leadership, visibility, or life in the public eye. Whether you are in the entertainment industry, corporate leadership, media, law, finance, or politics, I provide a private, high-quality therapeutic experience tailored to your needs. Clients in the public eye often face distinct stressors—intense performance expectations, constant scrutiny, identity fragmentation, and relational challenges that can be difficult to explore in conventional settings. My practice offers a confidential and secure environment where these concerns can be addressed with both discretion and depth. At Holistic Therapy, EMDR & Wellness New York, I provide concierge-level care, including flexible scheduling, secure telehealth, and elevated privacy protocols to ensure your confidentiality. However, the therapeutic work itself is grounded in the same integrity, clinical excellence, and relational attunement offered to all clients. My role is not to accommodate status, but to offer a safe and non-hierarchical space for genuine psychological work. This practice is ideally suited for professionals and creatives who are functioning at a high level, yet feeling emotionally taxed, disconnected, or quietly overwhelmed. If you are managing the internal weight of external success, therapy can provide a place to reflect, reset, and reclaim a sense of agency—away from public demands and in service of your deeper wellbeing. High-profile clients and public figures often require a higher level of privacy, discretion, and flexibility. In my New York City practice, I offer secure telehealth options, discreet scheduling, and off-hours appointments when needed to accommodate demanding travel, production, or public schedules. Sessions are conducted with elevated confidentiality protocols that exceed standard HIPAA compliance, ensuring that your personal and professional boundaries are fully respected. This allows you to engage in meaningful therapeutic work without compromising your privacy, reputation, or availability.

—how much is therapy in nYC?

Therapy fees in New York City can vary widely based on a therapist’s experience, specialization, and the type of service offered. On average, a 50-minute psychotherapy session ranges from $200 to $400, with highly experienced clinicians charging at the higher end of that spectrum. Concierge-level therapy, EMDR intensives, and extended sessions may be higher and reflect the depth, customization, and availability offered. At Holistic Therapy & Wellness New York, I offer high-quality, integrative psychotherapy designed for individuals, couples, and professionals seeking meaningful, lasting change. Fees reflect my advanced training, extensive experience, and the boutique nature of my practice, which allows for individualized care, flexible scheduling, and access between sessions when needed. I do not accept insurance, but I can provide a superbill for out-of-network reimbursement if your plan includes mental health benefits. Many clients are able to recoup a portion of the session cost this way. Please feel free to reach out for a personalized consultation, where we can discuss fit, frequency, and options that support your goals and well-being.

—What’s the difference between weekly therapy and intensive sessions for individuals and couples? Why might I choose an intensive format?

Traditional weekly therapy sessions—typically 45-55 minutes in length—offer a consistent, steady rhythm for reflection, emotional support, and long-term growth. However, within the structure of these brief weekly meetings, a significant portion of time is often devoted to settling in, reviewing the week’s events, and reorienting to the deeper work. This often leaves only 30 to 40 minutes for actual therapeutic processing, which can limit depth—especially for clients working through complex trauma, relational issues, or high-impact life transitions. For many busy professionals and high-functioning individuals in New York City, staying focused on one issue week to week can also be difficult. Life happens—new stressors arise, urgent decisions need to be made, and pressing emotional reactions demand attention. While this responsiveness is an important part of psychotherapy, it can slow the progress of deeper transformational work. Additionally, the pace of once-a-week therapy can sometimes feel fragmented. There is often a loss of momentum between sessions, requiring time to re-enter the emotional material each week. For clients with demanding careers, limited time, or specific goals, this model may feel frustrating or insufficient for the change they’re seeking. Intensive therapy sessions are a powerful alternative for clients who are ready to move beyond the limitations of the standard weekly format. Intensives allow for uninterrupted, extended time to immerse yourself in the work—without the usual time constraints or emotional re-entry period. Sessions might span 90 minutes, half a day, or even a full day, depending on your goals and clinical needs. This format offers: deeper emotional processing without time pressure, the ability to maintain therapeutic momentum over several hours, a more focused container for complex trauma, relationship issues, or breakthrough work, fewer interruptions caused by weekly life demands or distraction and greater scheduling flexibility for clients with unpredictable work or travel schedules

At Holistic Therapy & Wellness New York, I often recommend intensives for clients seeking accelerated healing, targeted trauma resolution (including EMDR intensives), or space to navigate a major life transition with clarity and depth. This approach is especially beneficial for high-performing professionals, creatives, and individuals with limited availability who want focused, efficient, and transformative care. If you’ve found yourself wanting “more” out of therapy—more depth, more progress, more integration—an intensive may be the format that finally meets you where you are.

—What Advanced Training Do You Have as a Psychotherapist?

As a licensed psychotherapist from New York City, I bring nearly 20 years of post-graduate, advanced training to my work with individuals and couples. I earned my Master’s degree in Clinical Social Work from NYU with high honors, and have since pursued extensive, specialized training to offer a truly integrative and holistic approach to supporting mental health. My background includes certifications and advanced study in EMDR therapy, Somatic Experiencing®, Internal Family Systems (IFS), psychodynamic psychotherapy, trauma-informed care, sex therapy, mindfulness and integrative medicine & nutrition coaching. I’ve also completed focused training in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Focusing, Brainspotting, relational psychoanalysis, couples therapy modalities, and holistic protocols for addressing hormonal, nutritional, and nervous system imbalances. This multimodal foundation allows me to tailor each therapeutic experience to the individual—whether you’re navigating anxiety, trauma, identity shifts, relationship challenges, or life transitions. My approach is grounded in science, yet deeply intuitive—designed to help you uncover the root causes of distress and create sustainable, embodied transformation. I continuously engage in professional development to stay at the forefront of integrative mental health and provide exceptional, personalized care to discerning clients seeking depth and healing.

At Holistic Therapy, EMDR & Wellness New York, the role of the therapist is central to your healing journey. A therapist is not only a compassionate presence but also a highly trained guide who helps you navigate the emotional, psychological, and physical terrain of your life with clarity and care. In my NYC-based practice, I offer a personalized and integrative approach, drawing on advanced modalities like EMDR, Somatic Experiencing, Internal Family Systems (IFS), and psychodynamic psychotherapy. As your therapist, I work collaboratively with you to identify patterns that keep you stuck, reprocess unresolved trauma, and build inner resilience. My role is to hold space with deep attunement, provide clinical insight, and help you create meaningful change—from the inside out. For high-functioning professionals, creatives, and women navigating life transitions or hormonal shifts, therapy becomes a sanctuary for reclaiming your voice, restoring nervous system balance, and aligning with your most authentic self. Together, we co-create a safe, strategic path toward emotional wellness, grounded presence, and a renewed sense of agency.

Psychotherapists often pursue post-graduate certifications in advanced modalities such as EMDR, Somatic Experiencing, Internal Family Systems (IFS), psychoanalysis, and integrative medicine. This allows for greater flexibility and specialization, especially in holistic, body-based, trauma-informed, and relational approaches.

At Holistic Therapy, EMDR & Wellness New York, my psychotherapeutic training integrates years of advanced study in both evidence-based modalities and alternative frameworks that support healing at the root level. This diversity allows me to tailor therapy to the unique nervous system, story, and goals of each client—offering something more expansive than a one-size-fits-all model.

—What Is Holistic Psychotherapy?

At Holistic Therapy, EMDR & Wellness New York, holistic psychotherapy is an integrative, evidence-informed approach that addresses psychological concerns through the lens of the whole person. Rather than focusing solely on symptoms or diagnosis, this method explores the complex interaction between emotional life, physical health, stress physiology, cognitive patterns, attachment history, and lifestyle factors. In a holistic framework, mental health is understood as inseparable from the functioning of the nervous system, the regulation of emotion, and the body’s physiological response to trauma and stress. Therapy may incorporate EMDR, somatic psychotherapy, Internal Family Systems (IFS), mindfulness-based techniques, and nervous system stabilization—all tailored to your individual needs and history.

While the term holistic is sometimes mischaracterized as vague or lacking clinical rigor, and often overused by wellness influencers, in this practice, it reflects a sophisticated and research-driven model. Holistic psychotherapy is not about alternative trends or superficial wellness strategies. It is grounded in advanced clinical training, neuroscience, and trauma-informed care, and it honors the interplay between psychological, physiological, and relational health. This approach is particularly effective for individuals experiencing chronic anxiety, trauma, burnout, psychosomatic symptoms, relational stress, or challenges related to life transitions. It also serves clients seeking more than symptom relief—those pursuing meaningful psychological insight, greater emotional regulation, and long-term transformation. Clients who choose this work are often high-functioning, successful professionals who value depth, discretion, and a personalized therapeutic experience. Holistic psychotherapy offers a space to engage in focused, integrative treatment that supports not only healing, but sustainable well-being.

—What is Somatic Psychotherapy, and Why Is It Important?

Somatic psychotherapy is a body-centered therapeutic approach that recognizes the profound link between mind and body in the healing of trauma, anxiety, and emotional distress. At Holistic Therapy & Wellness New York, I integrate somatic therapies to help clients gently reconnect with their bodies, process unresolved trauma, and shift entrenched emotional patterns that traditional talk therapy alone may not fully reach. Especially for high-functioning individuals in the fast-paced, high-pressure environment of New York City, stress and trauma often manifest physically—through chronic tension, fatigue, gut issues, or a persistent sense of being “on edge.” Somatic psychotherapy invites a deeper level of healing by engaging the nervous system directly, building body awareness, and fostering emotional resilience. By tuning into bodily sensations and using techniques like grounding, breathwork, movement, and mindful tracking, clients begin to reclaim safety in their bodies and develop a more integrated, empowered sense of self. This is not just about feeling better—it's about coming home to yourself.

—What Makes Your New York Therapy Practice Different from other Traditional Therapy practices?

At Holistic Therapy, EMDR & Wellness New York, I offer a modern, integrative approach that combines evidence-based psychotherapy with curated lifestyle interventions. This means our work together isn’t limited to talk therapy. In addition to trauma-informed and evidence-based modalities such as EMDR, Somatic Experiencing, and Internal Family Systems, I incorporate curated lifestyle interventions that support emotional regulation and nervous system balance. My approach is rooted in the belief that mental health cannot be separated from physical and environmental wellbeing. Therapy may include guidance on nutritional support, sleep hygiene, breathwork, integrative medicine protocols, hormonal health, and nervous system practices designed to regulate and restore. Together, we address your psychological and somatic symptoms while also tending to the everyday rhythms and choices that shape your emotional landscape. This deeply personalized and holistic model is designed for high-functioning clients who are ready to go beyond symptom relief and explore true root-cause healing, transformation, and long-term vitality.

—Do you just work with women, and what about diversity in your practice?

While I have a strong focus on supporting high-achieving women—particularly those navigating trauma, hormonal transitions, or the emotional toll of perfectionism and over-functioning—my practice is intentionally inclusive and welcoming to a diverse range of individuals, identities, and relationship structures. I work with men, nonbinary and transgender clients, and proudly support the LGBTQ+ community with affirming, trauma-informed care. I also welcome clients exploring or living within consensually non-monogamous frameworks, including polyamorous, open, and swinger lifestyles. My approach is rooted in deep respect for each person’s truth and lived experience, and I offer a nonjudgmental, attuned space to explore identity, intimacy, attachment, and the complexity of being fully human. What brings my clients together is not sameness, but a shared desire to feel more whole, embodied, and alive.

—Who are your ideal therapy clients?

I work with individuals and couples across New York State—particularly those based in Manhattan—who are seeking more than symptom relief. At Holistic Therapy, EMDR & Wellness New York, my clients are discerning, high-achieving professionals, creatives, and women navigating complex life transitions, trauma histories, hormonal shifts, relationship challenges, or professional burnout. Many arrive after trying conventional therapy or medical interventions that failed to offer lasting change. They are emotionally intelligent, self-aware, and successful in many areas of life—but internally they may feel dysregulated, overwhelmed, disconnected, or stuck in patterns that no longer serve them.

My practice is designed for those who crave a deeper, more personalized and integrative approach—therapy that addresses the emotional, somatic, relational, and physiological roots of distress. Whether you're struggling with anxiety, depression, unresolved trauma, identity loss, emotional dysregulation, or chronic stress, I offer an individualized, boutique model of care that honors your full complexity. Therapy here is a space to slow down, reconnect with your inner knowing, and begin the process of healing from the inside out. For those ready to move beyond gaining coping skills and into true transformation, this work offers depth, insight, and a path back to your most grounded and authentic self.

—Do You Address the Root Cause of Symptoms during therapy sessions?

My work is grounded in the belief that true healing happens when we address the core—not just the surface. Symptoms are often signals, not the problem itself. Rather than masking them with quick fixes or short-term strategies, I support clients in uncovering and understanding the emotional, relational, biological, and developmental roots of their distress. This means looking closely at early attachment wounds, unresolved trauma, nervous system dysregulation, chronic stress, gut and immune health, hormonal imbalances, and identity disruptions that are often missed in conventional care. We ask not only "What’s wrong?" but also, "What happened to you?" and "What does your body still remember?" From this foundation, we co-create a comprehensive and personalized healing plan that integrates both psychological and somatic care. Whether we’re working through limiting beliefs, regulating the nervous system, or implementing lifestyle and integrative medicine interventions, the goal is lasting transformation—healing from the inside out, not just managing what’s visible on the outside.

—do you offer virtual, online Individual therapy to residents of New York?

Research consistently shows that remote therapy is just as effective as in-person psychotherapy for many individuals, couples, and families. At Holistic Therapy, EMDR & Wellness New York, I offer secure, HIPAA-compliant teletherapy sessions to clients throughout Manhattan and across New York State. Whether you’re seeking individual therapy, couples counseling, or family therapy, virtual sessions via video or phone can provide the same depth and therapeutic outcomes as face-to-face sessions. This flexibility is especially valuable for high-functioning professionals, long-distance couples, and individuals who prefer the comfort and privacy of home.

Telehealth, also referred to as online therapy, video therapy, or telemedicine, is ideal for clients with demanding schedules, those who travel frequently, or individuals navigating chronic illness, parenting responsibilities, or anxiety-related challenges that make in-person visits difficult. I have worked for years with clients exclusively online—many of whom I’ve never met in person—supporting meaningful, long-term change through virtual therapy sessions.

For couples in different locations, teletherapy offers a practical and effective solution for relationship support, marital counseling, or conflict resolution. Many of my New York City clients prefer the ease and accessibility of virtual care, which eliminates the commute while still offering high-quality, relational, and trauma-informed psychotherapy.

While online therapy is not the right fit for everyone—particularly those with serious mental health conditions requiring in-person monitoring—it can be a powerful alternative for many. If at any point you wish to transition to in-person sessions, I welcome you to my Manhattan office for continuity of care.

In a city as dynamic and demanding as New York, teletherapy offers a modern, accessible, and effective path to healing and emotional support. Whether you’re new to therapy or returning after time away, online therapy at Holistic Therapy, EMDR & Wellness New York allows you to receive comprehensive, personalized care—wherever you are.

—Do you offer virtual, online therapy for couples & families?

Online marriage & couples counseling sessions are delivered through a HIPAA protected online video platform called SimplePractice. Remote therapy provides confidentiality and is regulated by the same local and federal laws as “in office” therapy. The software that I use is called simple practice. My clients quickly become accustomed to the platform and many find that Teletherapy is as effective as in-person sessions. Telehealth counseling can be used anytime from the comfort of your home and is a great option for clients who have children, busy schedules or are in different locations but still want to receive counseling. It works well even when all members are in different locations. So yes, my clients who prefer online relationship, marriage or couples counseling are quite satisfied with virtual sessions.

—Do you offer virtual, online EMDR for New Yorkers?

Yes, EMDR therapy can be effectively conducted online in many cases—especially for high-functioning, emotionally stable individuals. At Holistic Therapy, EMDR & Wellness New York, I offer virtual EMDR sessions through a secure, HIPAA-compliant platform designed to uphold both clinical integrity and client privacy. This is ideal for clients in Manhattan and across New York State who are seeking transformative trauma therapy with flexibility, convenience, and the same depth as in-person work.

Online EMDR therapy follows the same structured, eight-phase protocol as in-office sessions. Using guided bilateral stimulation—such as tapping, auditory tones, or eye movements—we target negative beliefs, distressing memories, and somatic symptoms that are often stored in the nervous system. The goal is to help you reprocess these experiences so they lose their emotional charge and no longer disrupt your present life.

As a trauma-informed therapist with advanced training in EMDR & EMDR Intensives, I assess each client individually to determine whether virtual EMDR is clinically appropriate. During your initial consultation, I evaluate the nature of the trauma, your current emotional and psychological functioning, and your internal resources or "ego strengths" to ensure online EMDR is safe and effective for you. For many of my high-achieving clients navigating stress, trauma, or life transitions, online EMDR offers powerful relief and healing from the comfort of home—without sacrificing clinical rigor or emotional depth.

—Do you offer online therapy for brief, short term therapy consultations?

Many opt for short-term therapy for a variety of reasons. I consult with individuals and families about personal and life challenges, a difficult transition or a crisis that may benefit from a focused, solution-based approach using assessment, education, guidance, advice, support and appropriate resources.

One example might be a family member who is struggling with an addiction and/or a mental health issue. Consultations tend to be time-limited, solution-focused and goal-oriented in nature. Therapy consultations allow a client, parent or family member to explore concerns and to make decisions or changes in their lives that move them in a helpful direction. The consultation process is an opportunity to speak extensively about any problems and concerns in your current situation.

What makes this different from psychotherapy is that the experience is limited, usually only two or three sessions, sometimes more, and is not meant to replace ongoing therapy. A consultation can help a client gain advice, insight, perspective, guidance and resources for their particular circumstance. At the end of the consultation process, I offer clients my assessment and a recommendation for treatment or referrals. I provide consultation services to individuals, those seeking second opinions, parents, concerned family members, mental health professionals on case concerns, and other professionals.

Consultations can be conducted by telephone, online via Skype or a secure, HIPPA compliant internet source and are especially helpful for those who do not have access to a therapist because they live in remote areas and don’t have access to skilled, experienced therapists.

—What Are your specialties or expertise?

Therapy questions

—I’m successful on the outside. Why do I still feel like something’s missing?

Success doesn't always equal fulfillment. In fact, many of the high-achieving professionals, creatives, and caregivers I work with feel haunted by a quiet sense of “is this all there is?”—despite lives that look impressive from the outside. At Holistic Therapy & Wellness New York, we explore the space between appearance and truth. That “something missing” is often a call inward—toward authenticity, emotional clarity, and deeper connection with yourself and others. Therapy helps you unpack the parts of you that got overlooked in your climb to the top: the suppressed grief, the unspoken fears, the exiled needs. In our work together, we’ll move beyond performance into presence—because you deserve more than a life that just looks good. You deserve one that feels true.

—Can therapy help me if I’m not in crisis?

Absolutely. You don’t need to be in crisis to benefit from therapy. In fact, therapy is often most powerful when it’s approached proactively—as a space for self-discovery, reflection, and realignment. Many of my NYC clients come not because they’re falling apart, but because they want to deepen their emotional intelligence, navigate a life transition with grace, or become more present in their relationships. Therapy is a space to grow, not just to “fix.” At Holistic Therapy & Wellness New York, we specialize in supporting high-functioning individuals who are ready to shift out of autopilot and reconnect with their vitality, purpose, and inner clarity.

—I have good friends and family, why would i need to speak with a therapist?

While friends and family can be an important part of your support system, they’re not a substitute for professional therapy. At Holistic Therapy & Wellness New York, our boutique psychotherapy services offer a completely different experience—one that is confidential, nonjudgmental, and expertly tailored to your emotional and psychological needs. A licensed therapist provides more than just a listening ear. We bring clinical training, deep attunement, and proven therapeutic techniques to help you identify root causes, shift long-standing patterns, and regulate your nervous system. Unlike loved ones, a therapist has no emotional investment in your decisions, allowing for deeper insight, objectivity, and growth. If you're a high-functioning professional, executive, or creative navigating stress, anxiety, burnout, or life transitions in New York City, therapy gives you a dedicated space to explore your inner world—without having to perform, explain, or hold back. Our integrative approach blends evidence-based practices like EMDR therapy, somatic therapy, and psychoanalytic insight with holistic wellness and lifestyle strategies. Therapy isn’t just for when things fall apart—it’s for those ready to rise into more grounded clarity, emotional freedom, and self-trust. Even if you “seem fine,” you may still feel stuck, disconnected, or unsure. Therapy helps you tune in to what’s truly going on and create lasting change from the inside out.

—What if I feel worse before I feel better?

This is an honest part of the therapeutic process. Sometimes, as you begin to feel safe enough to feel, old emotions, buried memories, or defenses may rise to the surface. This isn’t failure—it’s a sign that your nervous system is starting to trust that it’s safe to process what’s been held inside. At Holistic Therapy & Wellness New York, I work with trauma-informed approaches like EMDR, somatic therapy, and attachment-focused psychotherapy to guide you through these deeper layers gently and at your own pace. Together, we’ll build regulation skills to help you stay grounded, supported, and resourced as you heal.

Healing isn't always linear. But even in the discomfort, you're not alone. This work is sacred, and you’ll be held in it with care.

—What if I don’t know what’s “wrong”—I just feel off?

You don’t need a formal mental health diagnosis to seek therapy. In fact, some of the most profound reasons people come to therapy are hard to name. You might feel low-level anxiety, disconnection, exhaustion, or a subtle sense of numbness. You might feel like you’re going through the motions, without knowing why. That’s more than enough to begin. At my NYC practice, we explore these quiet signals of distress as doorways into your inner world. Through holistic, integrative therapy, we work to understand what your symptoms are trying to tell you—and how you can return to alignment, meaning, and wholeness. Often, what feels “off” is something real that’s been long ignored. You’re allowed to listen.

—Why do I keep repeating the same patterns, even though I “know better”?

This is one of the most frustrating and heartbreaking experiences for thoughtful, self-aware people. You’ve done the reading, listened to the podcasts, journaled, talked it through a hundred times. You understand your patterns intellectually—and yet, in moments that matter, you find yourself reacting in the same old ways. Shutting down when you want to speak up. Over-giving when you promised yourself you wouldn’t. Falling into the same relationship dynamics, the same emotional spirals, the same self-doubt—again and again. This isn’t because you’re broken. It’s because insight alone doesn’t create change. Much of what drives our behavior—especially our relational patterns and emotional reactivity—lives in the body and the nervous system. These patterns often form in early life, when we adapt to emotional neglect, inconsistency, trauma, or unmet attachment needs. Even as adults, we carry these protective strategies in our unconscious, in our muscle memory, in the parts of us that learned how to survive before we learned how to feel safe.

At Holistic Therapy & Wellness New York, we go beyond surface-level awareness. We work at the level of the whole self—mind, body, and inner parts—because real change requires more than understanding. It requires integration. Through trauma-informed modalities like EMDR, Internal Family Systems (IFS), and somatic psychotherapy, we gently access the roots of stuckness, helping you build new emotional pathways, release what’s no longer serving you, and create lasting shifts from the inside out. You’re not failing because you keep repeating patterns. You’re responding from a system that’s been trying to protect you. In therapy, we honor those parts—not override them—and help you build the internal safety and freedom to choose something new. Transformation happens not through willpower, but through compassionate, embodied healing.

—What if I’m scared to cry or lose control in therapy?

This is such a common and deeply human fear. Many high-achieving individuals—especially those who’ve held it together for years—worry that if they finally let go, they’ll fall apart. Crying, trembling, even silence in therapy can feel terrifying when you're not used to being vulnerable. At Holistic Therapy & Wellness New York, emotional expression is not only welcome—it’s honored. We move at a pace that feels safe for your system. If you're afraid to go there, we don’t push—we regulate, we build trust, and we invite your nervous system to know it’s finally safe to soften. You won’t fall apart. You’ll unfold.

—Do you work with people who are highly sensitive or empathic?

Yes. Highly sensitive people (HSPs), empaths, and deeply intuitive individuals often feel the world more intensely—which can be both a gift and a burden. You may find yourself overstimulated by noise, overwhelmed in relationships, or absorbing the emotions of others as your own. At Holistic Therapy & Wellness New York, I offer a grounded, sensory-aware approach tailored for highly sensitive nervous systems. Using somatic therapy, boundary work, and emotional regulation techniques, we’ll help you understand your sensitivity as wisdom—not weakness. Therapy can be a place to unlearn the shame of being “too much,” and instead, learn how to thrive in your body and your truth.

—Why do I shut down or go blank in sessions sometimes?

Shutting down in therapy isn’t a failure—it’s a nervous system response. For many trauma survivors or deeply overwhelmed individuals, going blank, zoning out, or suddenly feeling tired is a form of protection. It’s your body saying, “This is too much, too fast.” This is common, especially when diving into vulnerable material. At my NYC practice, I recognize these signs as invitations, not obstacles. We slow down. We regulate. We create safety first, so your system doesn’t have to brace against overwhelm. Therapy isn’t about “performing healing.” It’s about learning how to feel safe enough to stay present.

—I’m afraid if I start talking, I won’t be able to stop. What then?

This fear is rooted in wisdom—especially if you’ve spent years holding everything in. You may be afraid that opening up will unleash a tidal wave of pain, grief, or rage that you’ve carefully kept at bay. Many clients worry, “If I start, I won’t be able to stop.” In therapy, we don’t force anything open. At Holistic Therapy & Wellness New York, we pace the work carefully. You’re in control. Together, we build the internal capacity to feel what was once too much—without becoming overwhelmed. Sometimes just saying, “I’m afraid of what’s inside,” is the first healing step. And you don’t have to take that step alone.

—How long will I need to be in therapy?

The length of therapy truly depends on you—your goals, your history, and the depth of what you want to explore. Some clients come for short-term, solution-focused work to address a specific challenge. Others engage in longer-term therapy to process trauma, understand lifelong patterns, or deepen self-awareness and emotional resilience. Both are valid.

At Holistic Therapy & Wellness New York, I offer highly individualized care—whether you're looking for weekly sessions, EMDR intensives, or depth-oriented psychotherapy. The process is collaborative and continually adapted to meet your evolving needs.

As a general guide:

  • Short-term therapy (8–16 sessions) may be appropriate for a targeted concern or specific life transition.

  • Longer-term therapy often supports clients working through trauma, relationship dynamics, attachment wounds, or complex emotional patterns.

  • Ongoing therapy can serve as a steady space for growth, integration, and inner work over time—much like preventative care for your mental and emotional health.

What matters most is your readiness to engage in the process. I’m here to meet you wherever you are—and help you move at a pace that feels grounded, safe, and sustainable.

—Can I just stop therapy—or do I need to “graduate”?

You are always in charge of your therapy. There’s no formal graduation or fixed endpoint unless that’s something you want to create together. Therapy is a collaborative process, and how long you stay—or when you pause or end—is entirely your decision. That said, therapy tends to be most effective when endings are intentional. Stopping suddenly can sometimes bypass the valuable work that happens during closure: reflecting on your growth, identifying remaining blind spots, and creating a plan to carry your insights forward. In many cases, the ending phase is just as meaningful as the beginning. At Holistic Therapy & Wellness New York, I support clients through both short-term and long-term therapy journeys. Whether you’re ready to take a break, reduce frequency, or thoughtfully end your work, we’ll talk about it together. You’ll never be pressured to stay longer than you want—or encouraged to leave before you feel complete. You may come to therapy to heal, and stay to grow. And when the time is right to step away, I’m here to help you do that with clarity, confidence, and care.

—What if I decide therapy is not working?

This happens sometimes, and for many reasons, including the fact that I might not be the best therapist for you. The therapeutic relationship is one of the most important factors in your healing and growth. If you don’t feel comfortable, seen, or understood by your therapist, it’s absolutely okay to speak up—or to explore other options. A strong therapeutic alliance is built on trust, safety, and attunement. Without it, therapy can feel disconnected or even frustrating. At Holistic Therapy & Wellness New York, I deeply respect the courage it takes to begin therapy—and I understand how personal and intuitive the process can be. You are never expected to “stick it out” with a therapist who doesn’t feel like the right fit. Sometimes, discomfort in therapy can signal growth; other times, it may reflect a mismatch in style, energy, or approach. Either way, you deserve to feel supported. If something doesn’t feel right, I encourage open dialogue. We can explore your concerns together, or if needed, I can support you in finding a therapist who better meets your needs. Therapy should feel like a safe place to land, not one more place where you have to pretend or accommodate. You’re not “difficult” or “failing” if it takes a few tries to find the right therapist. In fact, advocating for what you need is a powerful part of the healing process.

—What can i discuss in therapy?

In therapy with me, Kimberly Seelbrede, LCSW, individuals and couples can explore a broad spectrum of personal, emotional, and relational topics within a safe, confidential, and trauma-informed environment. My approach integrates evidence-based modalities such as EMDR, Internal Family Systems (IFS), Somatic Experiencing, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), alongside holistic practices like mindfulness, nutrition, and energy medicine. This comprehensive framework allows us to address the root causes of distress, whether stemming from trauma, anxiety, depression, relationship challenges, or life transitions.

Topics you can discuss in therapy include:

  • Mental Health Concerns: Anxiety, depression, trauma, PTSD, panic attacks, and stress-related disorders.

  • Relationship Dynamics: Communication issues, intimacy concerns, betrayal, codependency, and family conflicts.

  • Personal Growth: Identity exploration, self-esteem, perfectionism, and overcoming self-sabotage.

  • Life Transitions: Navigating changes such as divorce, career shifts, aging, or loss.

  • Addiction and Recovery: Substance use, behavioral addictions, and post-rehabilitation support.

  • Performance and Creativity Blocks: Addressing obstacles in professional or creative endeavors.

  • Women's Health: Perimenopause, menopause, and hormonal health challenges.

  • Psycho-spiritual and Existential Exploration: Questions of purpose, meaning, and personal values.

Limits to therapy include:

  • Confidentiality Boundaries: I am legally and ethically required to breach confidentiality if there is imminent risk of harm to yourself or others, or in cases of suspected abuse.

  • Scope of Practice: While I provide comprehensive therapeutic support, I do not offer medical diagnoses or prescribe medications. I may refer you to appropriate healthcare providers when necessary.

  • Emergency Situations: Therapy is not a substitute for emergency services. In crisis situations, I will assist in connecting you with immediate support resources.

—How often should i meet with my therapist?

The frequency of therapy sessions is tailored to meet your specific needs, goals, and emotional capacity. For most clients, weekly sessions provide a steady rhythm that supports meaningful progress, integration, and continuity of care. Meeting once a week allows us to build a strong therapeutic relationship, explore patterns as they arise in real time, and maintain momentum in the healing process. However, during periods of acute stress, emotional crisis, or when working through intensive trauma, twice-weekly sessions or brief intensives may be recommended to provide greater containment, stabilization, and support. My boutique practice offers the flexibility to increase session frequency when needed, so that therapy remains responsive and attuned to your evolving circumstances. Whether you’re seeking long-term transformation or short-term relief, we’ll collaborate to create a schedule that honors your bandwidth while helping you move toward clarity, resilience, and lasting change.

—What Is Holistic Psychotherapy?

Holistic psychotherapy acknowledges that the mind, body, and spirit are deeply interconnected. Rather than isolating a symptom, we explore how your physical health, emotional patterns, belief systems, lifestyle habits, and nervous system function interact. This approach draws from traditional psychotherapy and integrates trauma work, somatic healing, mindfulness, and evidence-based wellness practices. It’s ideal for people who want to go deeper, heal more thoroughly, and live more authentically.

—How Do I Know If I’m Ready for Therapy?

Knowing if you need therapy isn’t always about being in crisis—it’s often about recognizing that something in your life feels off, unmanageable, or unaligned. You might find yourself overwhelmed by anxiety, stuck in the same painful relationship patterns, navigating a major transition, or simply feeling disconnected from your sense of purpose or self. Maybe you’re functioning well on the outside but struggling privately with burnout, irritability, emotional numbness, or self-doubt. Therapy can also be a proactive choice—a space to deepen self-awareness, process unresolved experiences, or explore your potential. At Holistic Therapy, EMDR & Wellness New York, I help high-functioning individuals and couples uncover what’s beneath the surface and begin the work of healing at the root. If you’ve been wondering whether life could feel lighter, more connected, or more authentic, that alone may be a sign that therapy could support you.

—How will i know when it’s time to stop therapy?

Knowing when to stop therapy is a highly personal decision, and in my practice at Holistic Therapy, EMDR & Wellness New York, I support clients in achieving meaningful results—efficiently and without unnecessary prolonging of the process. You may be ready to pause or complete therapy when you feel more emotionally regulated, experience greater clarity and self-trust, and find that old patterns no longer hold the same charge or influence. Often, clients report improved relationships, reduced symptoms, and a stronger connection to themselves and their values. My integrative, results-oriented approach is designed to help high-functioning individuals create deep, lasting change without being in therapy forever. We’ll regularly evaluate your progress together and discuss whether your goals have been met or if a new phase of work is emerging. Therapy isn’t meant to be indefinite—it’s a tool for transformation, and I’m here to help you move forward with clarity, confidence, and the internal resources to thrive on your own.

—What kinds of problems are addressed in therapy?

Therapy is a powerful, supportive space where a wide range of emotional, relational, and psychological challenges can be addressed—both the visible struggles and the quieter ones beneath the surface. At Holistic Therapy, EMDR & Wellness New York, I work with individuals and couples navigating issues such as anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, identity confusion, self-worth challenges, burnout, life transitions, and chronic stress. Therapy can help you break free from repetitive relationship patterns, heal from early attachment wounds, regulate a dysregulated nervous system, and work through complex family dynamics. For many high-functioning individuals, therapy also becomes a space to explore deeper questions around meaning, purpose, and authenticity. I also support clients dealing with somatic symptoms, hormonal changes, and the emotional toll of chronic or mystery illnesses. Whether you're struggling with a clearly defined issue or just feeling “off” in ways you can't fully articulate, therapy offers a structured path to greater clarity, integration, and emotional resilience.

—I have supportive friends and family, why work with a therapist?

While talking to a smart, compassionate friend can offer comfort and connection, therapy provides something fundamentally different: a dedicated, structured, and expertly guided space for deep transformation. As a licensed psychotherapist with advanced training in trauma, EMDR, somatic therapy, and integrative wellness, I offer more than empathy—I bring a depth of clinical expertise, psychological insight, and evidence-based tools tailored to your unique nervous system and life story. Friends may give advice or share their opinions, but a skilled therapist helps you uncover your own truth, recognize unconscious patterns, and access parts of yourself that often remain hidden in everyday conversations. Therapy is a space that’s entirely yours—free of judgment, agenda, or personal bias—where the focus is solely on your healing and growth. If you’re looking for lasting change, not just temporary relief, therapy offers a level of precision, containment, and attunement that even the kindest friend cannot replicate.

—Where Do You Offer Therapy?

This practice is now exclusively virtual and available to clients in New York City and throughout New York State. My practice is designed for flexibility, convenience, and privacy—making it ideal for busy professionals and anyone who needs high-quality care without commuting.

—Is Holistic Therapy & Wellness NY Eligible For In-Network & Out-Of-Network Insurance Reimbursement?

I work with clients who have Cigna, Aetna, BCBS, United Healthcare, and many other popular insurance carriers as out-of-network providers. Although I do not accept insurance directly, I can file claims with your insurance company on your behalf. I am also able to give you a monthly "superbill" for you to submit. Coverage for my services will vary depending on your insurance plan. I can look up your policy to determine the details. I do not accept plans obtained through Medicaid/Medicare as I am not a credentialed provider. If you have out-of-network insurance, most private or employer-based health insurance plans provide some level of reimbursement for out-of-network plans. You may be reimbursed 50%-100% depending on your plan. Sessions are self-pay using a credit card or FSA/HSA.

If you are a resident of Montana State, I am in-network with the following providers: BCBS, Mountain Health Coop, Aetna, Allegiance

—How do i get reimbursed for therapy?

  1. Payment - Payment is due at the end of each session. Holistic Therapy & Wellness NY accepts all major credit cards as well as HSA/FSA cards.

  2. Submission - The moment your credit card is charged, we submit your session claim directly to your insurance provider.
