Attachment-Based Therapy

Depending on our early experiences we may develop a secure, anxious, avoidant, or disorganized attachment style; once we identify your unique relational style, we will explore patterns in how you approach relationships, express and communicate emotions and needs, and navigate intimacy. Attachment-based therapy seeks to establish a secure and corrective experience between client and therapist.

Attachment-based therapy is a therapeutic approach grounded in attachment theory, which was first developed by psychologist John Bowlby. Attachment theory suggests that early relationships with caregivers play a crucial role in shaping a person's development, personality, and relationships throughout life. Attachment-based therapy aims to address relational patterns and difficulties that stem from early attachment experiences.

In attachment-based therapy, the therapist helps individuals explore their attachment history, often focusing on the relationship between the client and their primary caregiver(s) during childhood. Through exploration and reflection, clients gain insight into how their early attachment experiences may be influencing their current patterns of behavior, emotions, and relationships.

The therapist and client work collaboratively to develop a secure therapeutic relationship, which can serve as a healing corrective experience. Through this secure base, clients can explore and process difficult emotions, learn healthier ways of relating to others, and develop more secure attachment patterns.

Attachment-based therapy may be particularly beneficial for individuals struggling with relationship issues, unresolved trauma, low self-esteem, anxiety, depression, or difficulty regulating emotions. It can be conducted in individual therapy, couples therapy, or family therapy formats, depending on the needs of the client(s). The ultimate goal is to promote emotional healing, personal growth, and the development of secure, fulfilling relationships.
